Hi, I’m Ashwin. I write original Indian songs and background scores for films and theater. As a composer and music director, I take each piece from its first melody through the arrangements, musicians and final recording. My music brings Indian melodic roots together with the scale and emotion of cinema.

Velpaari · The storyA theater musical about King Velpaari, his people and the struggle to protect his land. Performed across the USA, including San Francisco, Denver and Phoenix.
Kottravai Kuthu · Start with track 1Start here. The king promises his people revenge against the enemies destroying his land. It’s a full-on war song, and I wanted its sound to feel as fierce as that promise. The arrangement and production give that anger a character of its own.
Soozhndhadhe · The king’s deathThis piece accompanies King Velpaari’s death. Here, the music turns from the force of battle to the weight of losing him.

For me, a song starts with a melody you want to hear again. A background score starts with what the scene makes you feel. I build from there, bringing together Indian musical ideas, live musicians and the sounds that belong to that particular story.
